There is a lot of debate on this issue. Somewhere in the world the name football is popular, and somewhere else the name soccer is popular. Today we will try to find the difference between these two.
The sport known as football in Great Britain and soccer in the United States. There are various types in football game. Rugby Football, National Football League etc.
In the 1880s, students at Oxford University who were artistic linguists made a distinction between the games of "rugger" (rugby football) and "assoccer" (association football). The second term was subsequently abbreviated to "soccer" (often written "socker"), and the phrase quickly became well-known outside of college. But in Britain, "soccer" never amounted to much more than a moniker.
Soccer became a common term used by American association football players to describe their sport. On the other hand, In Spanish-speaking countries, the sport is called fĂștbol.
The term "soccer" is also widely used in other nations that, like the US, have football competitions. For example, Australia is passionate about Australian rules football, which is developed from rugby, whereas Canada has its own version of gridiron football. Gaelic football is played in Ireland. Soccer is helpfully accurate in areas where football can be imprecise.
